This project proposes to found and structure a new scientific discipline called "environmentology," understood as the science that studies the complex and dynamic interactions between the objective (ecosystems, biodiversity, climate) and subjective (values, perceptions, behaviors) dimensions of the environment in the face of human activities. The major challenge is to construct an integrated, transdisciplinary, and epistemologically sound understanding of the environment, distinct from yet complementary to existing environmental sciences. Through a reflexive and theoretical approach, the project aims to clarify the scientific status of environmentalology, define its fundamental concepts (environmentologism, environmentalist, etc.), its specific methods, and its fields of application, by integrating traditional knowledge, the social sciences, and the natural sciences. It also seeks to address the limitations of sectoral approaches to contemporary environmental challenges (climate change, resource degradation, ecological conflicts). The objective is thus to develop an autonomous discipline, serving sustainable development, the prevention of ecological crises, and good environmental governance. This work opens new perspectives for research, higher education, and the development of more just, inclusive, and scientifically based environmental policies.
