Adolescent academic difficulties represent a major challenge for educational systems and contemporary societies. In Mwene-Ditu, this problem is particularly pronounced and requires a thorough exploration of the factors contributing to academic failure. The psychosocial etiology of these difficulties involves a complex interplay of individual, familial, and environmental elements. Adolescents, a pivotal period in development, are often influenced by their social, cultural, and economic contexts. Factors such as family tensions, a lack of socio-educational support, and peer pressure can exacerbate academic difficulties. This study aims to understand how these psychosocial dimensions manifest themselves in young people in Mwene-Ditu, highlighting the underlying mechanisms of academic difficulties. This article employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative surveys, to provide a comprehensive overview of the conditions contributing to these difficulties. By identifying the root causes, this research aims to provide concrete recommendations to strengthen support for adolescents and improve their chances of academic success.
